Great Literature

6 04 2007

Every now and then I feel a need to expand my reading horizons.  So for the last few weeks I’ve been tackling “Jane Eyre.”  I’ve got to tell you:  I don’t know when I’ve enjoyed a book so much.  I guess it’s a classic for a reason.  I think “Of Mice and Men” is next on the list for me.  Any other suggestions?

I will add Jane Eyre to my list! I have recently read (and enjoyed) Grapes of Wrath, A Wrinkle in Time, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Chosen. (If you want the authors, e-mail me.) The curriculum we use for C’s schooling has a high school curriculum made up of the classics, so I am making my list for next year. 🙂 Is Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck?

Yes, that’s Steinbeck. I had originally planned to read Grapes of Wrath next but someone told me to start slow when it comes to Steinbeck because he can be quite “dark.” I’m not that familiar with his writings, so I don’t know. I loved To Kill a Mockingbird; definitely one of my all time favorites. I also just recently read The Scarlet Letter again. I read it in high school but didn’t appreciate it then. A fascinating read. . .
