The New Look

28 02 2008

I decided it’s time to change the look of my page. . .that picture is one of my favorites.  Let me know what you think of the new look.  My goal is to post pics of the last week sometime today. . .stay tuned.

Snow Day

23 02 2008

Let me just point out that I just put “Snot Day” in the title by mistake.   A minor little typo really.  They both apply.

School was canceled today because of snow and ice and a real mess outside.  I spent the first 5 hours of the day scrapbooking my heart out while my neglected children watched an ungodly amount of television.  They were happy, I was happy, and for today that’s all that matters.

I promised the girls that I would make cookies with them while Ellie took her nap.  I put Ellie down (she’s still crying as I type this) and we mixed up a batch of chocolate chip cookies (I mixed some instant coffee into the batter in an attempt to make mocha chip cookies. . .we’ll see how they turn out).  Now the older two are happily pretending to be camping and Ellie is still crying from her crib.

We’re supposed to have dinner with some friends tonight but as I look outside I see a nasty rainy sleet type thing coming down.  If that freezes the roads will be treacherous so we may be staying in tonight.

Birthday Week

16 02 2008

Bryn and Lydia turned 6 on Wednesday so this week was full of birthday fun and also Valentine’s fun. . .Valentine’s boxes, cards, treats, parties, etc.  We celebrated their birthday on Wednesday evening with spaghetti, broccoli, and apple salad followed by cupcakes and ice cream.  They were thrilled with their “exploring kits” full of binoculars, water bottle, magnifying glass, compass, etc.  It’s what they asked for so we complied and we had 2 very happy little girls.  I took cupcakes into their class that day which was a big hit.  I made bumble bees for Bryn and ladybugs for Lydia (they are really into anything that starts with the same letter as their name).  Tomorrow, two of their friends are coming over for a “princess party.”  They are going to dress up like princesses and we’ll paint fingernails, watch princess movies, have tea and heart shaped sandwiches and other very girly things.  Should be fun.

In other news, we came very close to purchasing a building for our church (we made an offer contingent upon the inspection, the offer was accepted).  The problem was the inspector came out and found significant termite damage, black mold, foundation issues, roofing issues, plumbing issues, drywall issues. . .you get the idea.  We’re bummed because we really liked the building and it seemed perfect for our church and it was within our price range (now we know why!).  We haven’t given up on it, but we will be reevaluating our offer and deciding whether or not it’s worth the effort of redoing so much stuff.

We have company coming for supper tonight.  I’ve got taco soup in the crockpot all ready to go. . .stress free and very yummy.

Happy Blogging Anniversary

7 02 2008

Just wanted to note that today marks the one year anniversary of this blog.  A noteworthy occasion, no doubt.  To celebrate, I did 7 loads of laundry, baked 48 cupcakes, and planned my menus and grocery list for the weekend (my in-laws, and my mom are coming for B and L’s 6th birthday party).

Ellie has spent the entire day in only her diaper because she throws a horrible fit every time I try to get her clothes on.  I suppose a good parent would insist on getting her dressed and not let her have her way in this, but I didn’t have the energy to fight her today.   And besides, I don’t plan to write any books on great parenting any time soon.  Now, she has ink all over her because she got a hold of a pen and went nuts with it all over her belly and thighs.  I guess that’s what I get for being too relaxed about this.  Oh well, a little ink never hurt anyone.

Tid Bits

2 02 2008

I just got back from spending a day in kindergarten.  I am thoroughly exhausted and have an all new appreciation for Mrs. Trout.  Normally, I go in just for a few hours on Wednesdays, but today was the 100th day of school and there was a big celebration going on so I went in this morning (after a 2 hour weather delay) and spent the rest of the day there.  B and L were amused when they saw me packing my lunch and they were very proud of themselves as they led me to the cafeteria and told me where to sit.  The day was packed with activities all about the number 100.  A lot of fun, but a lot of energy was needed to keep up with all those kids!

In other news, we got our living room carpeted and our dining room tiled this week (if any of you have opinions about the fact that I covered up our hardwood floors with carpet and tile, you should probably keep them to yourself).  I love it, I love it, I LOVE IT!!  They say things don’t make you happy, but I think maybe I am just a little happier this week than I was last week.  Hard to say for sure.

It is snowing like crazy at the moment and it makes me want to curl up on the couch with a good book.

I have so much work to do in this house it’s insane.  We are having a Super Bowl party here on Sunday and my house is all out of order since we had to move all the furniture so the carpet and tile could be laid.  That included emptying my china hutch which is very time consuming and now I need to put it all back together.  I think the book on the couch will have to wait.
