First day of school, and no back to school shopping!

27 08 2009

Today I sent B and L out the door for the first day of second grade!  Can’t believe how grown up they look!

first day of school 018

I’ve been meaning to tell you about my amazing friend, Wendy.  Here’s the story:  she has a mother-in-law who is extremely generous (or has a serious shopping addiction, depending on your views).  She buys enormous amounts of clothing for Wendy’s two daughters, who are right about the same age as my twins.  In fact, she buys so many clothes that Wendy can’t possibly use them all.  So, Wendy, being the kind and gracious gal that she is, passes things along to me (honestly, I think I would take things back to the store and keep the cash, but then again, I’m not as nice as Wendy).  So Wendy calls me up to let me know she has a huge bag of clothing for me so I decided not to buy any school clothes until I know what is in that bag.

So I get the bag.  Oh. My. Word.  The bag is crammed full of clothing and is so heavy that my biceps and I can hardly handle it.  I drag it into the house, spread everything out on my living room floor, and am astonished to find that every single item still has a price tag on it.  Brand new clothing just given to me, and all but about 5 items fit.  Just out of nosiness curiosity, I grab my calculator and start adding up those tags.  The total?  $944.  Yes, that’s right.  Nine-hundred and forty-four dollars of clothing given to me.  Now, in her defense, I don’t think she actually paid that much for them, because most of the items had a marked-down price on it.  But still.  That’s a lot of clothing.

So, just to assure you that I am not exaggerating, I took some pictures.  The crazy thing is how she buys things in sets, kind of like she’s buying for twins:

And here’s the whole lot:

first day of school 006

Can you believe it??  So I bought new shoes and a pack of socks for the girls and that was the extent of my back-to-school shopping!  WooHoo!!

The crazy thing in all of this??  If you’ll notice in the picture above, there are no jeans (NOT that I’m complaining!! ).  The girls have definitely worn out their jeans from last year, so I had it in my mind that eventually  I’ll need to buy them new jeans.  I just got a call from my awesome mother-in-law wondering what size jeans the girls are wearing right now, because she’s shopping and wanted to send them  something for school.

My God shall supply all our needs according to his riches in glory. . . Thanks be to God and to Wendy’s mother-in-law and to my mother-in-law!

Clickety Click Click

23 08 2009

Every now and then I find myself just clicking away at different links.  Sometimes all that clicking leads to something cool and I just figured out that maybe you all would think it’s cool too!  So here are a few links for you to take a look at:

I love this one for it’s easy printable charts, invitations, etc.

I love this one for its whimsy. It takes a fun look at one of my favorite things:  cupcakes!

And finally, I need this one to keep me on my knees and help bring my life into perspective.

I’ll let you know if I come across anything else you might be interested in!

Wedding Pictures!

22 08 2009

Okay. . .I stole some pictures from other people’s Facebook pages, so credit goes to Charity Oxley, plus a few random family members for these pics.  Thanks guys!

One part of the centerpiece was vases filled with coffee beans and a candle.  I wish you could have smelled it!

My sister made over 300 of the best cupcakes I’ve ever tasted!  Mocha, in staying with the coffee theme.

Here’s two pictures of the bridal table at the reception.  I loved the sparkly effect of the lights being under the tablecloth.  So pretty.

They had one of the nastiest cake fights I’ve ever seen at a wedding!  Carla was smelling chocolate for hours afterward!

My sister and I (and her adorable son, Conner) before the wedding.  We did most of the music for the wedding and it was really fun to sing with her again.  It’s been too long!

I don’t know why this picture is so small, but I wanted to include it anyway.  I just love how it captures me bossing my dad around.  I’m very amused by it.

And again, a small one (my smart husband says it has something to do with the pixels, but no matter what I try, I can’t get it bigger without it being really blurry).  Anyway, this one is of my girls.   I think the cameraman must have said something like, “Which one is Lydia?”

My dad took this one of me.  It captures how I felt toward the end of the wedding.

I may post a few more pictures as they come in.  In the meantime, I’m moving on to other things, including B and L going back to school!  They start second grade on Wednesday!

A preview of what’s to come. . .

I’m still waiting on other family members to email me their photos.  In the meantime, I’ve got these for you:

The flowers were gorgeous!  Gorgeous!

Here’s Ellie eating a leftover mocha cupcake the morning (yes, morning) after the wedding.

The weather cooperated beautifully, allowing us to eat in my backyard the morning after the wedding.  The Sunday brunch was my very favorite part of the weekend.  All the hard work was done, and I was able to just relax and swap stories with my aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, nieces, nephews. . .we laughed until we cried.

The youngest member of my generation, Grant.  Watching him climb this tree made me thankful that I have girls!!

My dad (second from the left) and his 3 brothers.  When they all get together, it is pure entertainment.  Love it!

More photos of the actual wedding coming soon. . .

And exhale. . .

17 08 2009

Just jumping on here briefly to let you know that despite an usher with a flat tire, a blown fuse in the kitchen, an oven that stopped working, miniature bridesmaids (my daughters) that engaged in an all out cat-fight ON STAGE, the wedding went beautifully!  I didn’t take pics of the wedding day, so I’m waiting on various family members to get their stuff posted.  As soon as that happens, I’ll get them to you!  That’s a promise!

One Week To Go!

7 08 2009

We are down to the last week before Carla’s wedding!  Can’t believe it’s this close.  You can probably imagine what my life is like right now, so let’s hear it for bullet points!

  • I am eating toast with natural peanut butter and bananas right now.  And a cup of coffee.  Let’s hope it keeps me going for a while!
  • Kimmie is coming home today from a week in Wisconsin.  I can’t believe we used to live 7 hours apart.  This week has been lonesome just knowing she’s not home.
  • My awesome husband and kids cleaned the basement this week (break out into “The Hallelujah Chorus” here).  The trick is to keep it clean for a whole week.
  • Have I mentioned at any point that the day after the wedding, the whole family is coming to my house for brunch?  Yep!  That’s around 60 people.
  • Believe it or not, I am not stressed about that.  I do hope to have my house is reasonable order by then.  If I look around me right now, however, and consider the condition of this house, that might cause stress which might lead to chest pains, which might lead to the emergency room, which would ruin a perfectly good Friday.  So, I’m not looking around.
  • I am not making any of the food for this brunch, which is why I’m not stressed.  All I’m going to do is unlock my front door and put a fresh towel in the bathroom.
  • The county fair starts today.  We will probably squeeze in a trip to the fair at some point this week.  I hate it, but the girls love it (and Conrad secretly does to), plus it’s the only time all year I allow myself to indulge in fried pickles.
  • Conrad’s laptop is officially done.  This week he had smoke coming from it.  Literally.
  • I have made it my goal to be in bed by 10:00 every night from now until the wedding.  It’s an effort to preserve my sanity.  The crazy thing is how early I’ve been waking up!  This morning I woke up at 5:45 and felt really rested.  So, I got up and did 30 minutes on the treadmill before my pilates class.
  • The above statement is really amazing, especially when you consider I have been known to roll out of bed at 6:24 and still make it on time to my 6:30 pilates class.
  • I just signed up for Fantasy Football.  Is it that time already?
  • Speaking of football, I really hope Rich Rodriguez pulls his act together and has an undefeated season and takes UofM all the way to the National Championship.  One can always hope.
  • My disastrous house needs some attention.  I cannot put it off any longer.

And on that happy note, I’m off to tackle my to-do list!
